NETS-T Standard 4: Promote and Model Digital Citizenship and Responsibility

Teachers understand local and global societal issues and responsibilities in an evolving digital culture and exhibit legal and ethical behavior in their professional practices. Teachers:

A. advocate, model, and teach safe, legal, and ethical use of digital information and technology, including respect for copyright, intellectual property, and the appropriate documentation of sources.

My Movie from Trevor Moore on Vimeo.

This video models how to use technology and digital information in a legal and ethical way by making sure that all of the video clips that were used to create the video were used in a way that is considered fair use. At the end of the video, all of the video clips are cited so that the original creators are given credit. This video would be used to teach the students how to use other peoples work in a way that is legal and how to use it ethically.

B. address the diverse needs of all learners by using learner-centered strategies providing equitable access to appropriate digital tools and resources.

This website provides a variety of online resources that target multiple learning styles. This site would be used as a digital resource that students could use to gain a better understanding of class materials while they are outside of the classroom setting. The website allows students to participate in a variety of learning activities that target their learning style, which will help them better understand the information.

C. promote and model digital etiquette and responsible social interactions related to the use of technology and information.

This Wikispaces page was created with three of my colleagues and demonstrates how a group of people can responsibly work together and have appropriate social interactions while using technology. This page would be used as a model for students to see what appropriate social interactions should look like while they are working on an online group project.

D. develop and model cultural understanding and global awareness by engaging with colleagues and students of other cultures using digital-age communication and collaboration tools.

This video demonstrates that all cultures should and need to be valued. The video clips of the Olympics show how all countries can come together and compete in order to represent their countries. This video would be used during a lesson on cultural acceptance. It helps make the point that all people should be valued no matter where they come from.
